Providing Quality Education for the Structural Insulated Panel Industry

Global interest in SIPs is keeping our phone ringing and Al on the road. We have a lot happening on the home front as well. We've just added an August session to our 2010 schedule, and the SIPschool 2010 Design Symposium is now open for registration. This year's event is scheduled for Monday Sept 13 - Tuesday Sept. 14, 2010 and the list of presenters is being finalized. We've chosen the Inn at Charles Town in Charles Town, WV as this year's location, with plenty of rooms available on site. Sponsorship opportunities are available - contact Annie for details.

SIPschool's consulting services led to a May trip to Bolivia, South America, where director Al Cobb spent a week with a new manufacturing start up, using both cementatious skins as well as magnesium oxide. The non-wood environment of Bolivia demands the use of cellulose-free skins to provide durable and affordable housing. Just as important, the SIP solutions recommended by Al slash the typical build time in that area from six months to 3 weeks. SIPschool will be onsite again in the next few months providing more training in building with structural insulated panels to the traditionally block and stone workforce.

Al's trip to England last fall coincided with the launch of the UK SIP Association. During that event it was clear that many of the UK structural insulated panel manufacturers could benefit from the services of a UK branded SIPschool. We're pleased to announce that we have officially teamed with SIP veteran Charles Stewart of SIPS Industries. Al and Charles hosted the inaugural training of SIPschool UK the week of June 7 - 12 in Fife, Scotland. Three educational opportunities were offered; an Installer/ Builder session, and Architects/Engineers session, and a session designed for homeowners considering a SIP build. All three events were filled to capacity and very well received. Tentative plans include another session this fall.
